PIAA says individual schools can set spectator limits for sporting events

WILKES-BARRE &mdash; Flood Elementary school will go to remote-only learning Thursday in the wake of two probable COVID-19 cases, Wilkes-Barre Area Superintendent Brian Costello announced Wednesday afternoon. The school will resume in-class lessons Monday, Sept. 28. Schedules at other district schools were not impacted.
				Students chose one of three options for the first semester this year: Option 1 students are attending classes in schools five days a week. Option 2 students are learning at home by participating in those classes live online. Option 3 students are taking asynchronous online lessons.
				The district plan from the start was to be able to switch option 1 students to option 2 when needed, and to switch them back to option 1 when possible. In announcing the two cases, Costello wrote:
				&ldquo;As a result of the Department of Education recommendations and with close collaboration with the Department of Health, Dan Flood Elementary option 1 students (in-person) will move to option 2 (Live Virtual Sessions) beginning Thursday, September 24, 2020. In person classes will resume on Monday, September 28, 2020.
				&ldquo;All other schools will continue with in-person classes.&rdquo;
				He also reiterated the steps taken when a case of COVID-19 is found.
				&#8226; Contacts the state Rapid Response Center (RRC), an organization established to direct schools and coordinate efforts with the Department of Health, Department of Education and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.
				&#8226; Communicates directly with the Department of Health. The Department of Health then conducts contact tracing while the district establishes communication with close contacts and families.
				&#8226; Utilizes services from Ameristar Facility Solutions and our internal team to provide additional cleaning and sanitation of the district school building following each reported case.
				They are the same steps the district took Tuesday when a teacher tested positive at Coughlin High School, which is split between the annex of the old high school and the renovated Mackin building. Students attending in person at both buildings switched to option 2 (remote live learning) Tuesday but returned to the classroom Wednesday.

With 2 probable COVID-19 cases, Flood Elementary goes remote until Monday
