Out on a Limb: 1920 census raised some hackles

The Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine will host a virtual talent show to benefit scholarships for students at the school.
				The show, &ldquo;Geisinger Commonwealth&rsquo;s Got Talent: Healing Through the Arts,&rdquo; will be held at 7 p.m., on Nov. 7. It&rsquo;s the school&rsquo;s first fundraising talent show competition and gives student contestants the opportunity to perform while raising funds for scholarships.
				The virtual event will feature 11 student musical acts, including group and solo singing, dancing and instrumental performances. WNEP-TV news anchor Jon Meyer is serving as the master of ceremonies. He will join WNEP&rsquo;s Julie Sidoni, who is a judge alongside Dr. Jaewon Ryu, Geisinger&rsquo;s president and CEO; Dr. Steven J. Scheinman, Geisinger Commonwealth&rsquo;s dean of students; and Geisinger Commonwealth alum Dr. Nelson Sofoluke, Class of 2017.
				The top three acts will receive cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 respectively, with the judges&rsquo; scores counting for 80% of the total score and the final 20% coming from fundraising totals on behalf of each act.
				Registration is required to attend, sponsor or donate and can be done at <a href="http://donations.geisinger.org/site/TR?fr_id=1360&pg=entry" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">go.geisinger.org/TalentShow</a>. Attendees can win prizes and bid on auction items during the event.
				The talent show is raising funds for much-needed student scholarships, which enable outstanding students to achieve their goal of attending medical school and living a life of service to the community, regardless of their financial background. Scholarships at Geisinger Commonwealth help ensure that bright, medical minds are not denied an education simply because they can&rsquo;t afford it. Events like this have a profound impact on students and on the patients they will eventually serve.
