PHILADELPHIA&mdash; Stacy Fortin, Habilitation Technician, working out of the BAYADA Habilitation office in Wilkes-Barre, was recognized as the national Habilitation Technician Hero of the Year by BAYADA Home Health Care, a leading provider of in-home care. Chosen from among thousands of nominees, Stacy accepted the prestigious award for exemplifying the highest standards of care before nearly 2,400 employees at the company&rsquo;s annual awards meeting, held virtually in light of the COVID-19 virus on Sept. 24. The award was presented by BAYADA CEO, David Baiada.
				Fortin was selected not only because she has compassion for her clients, but everyone that comes into her life. She treats everyone equally. She does not see a disability she only sees that person. She once said, &ldquo;You never know what someone&rsquo;s story is, so treat everyone compassion and dignity.&rdquo;
				One of Fortin&rsquo;s clients is a permanent male resident, living in the U.S. with a green card. He has an intellectual disability, is blind, and lives in his own apartment. Prior to meeting Fortin, the client&rsquo;s home was messy, his meals were inappropriately cooked, he was being taken advantage of by some men, and his bills were delinquent. When Fortin arrived, that changed. The client&rsquo;s home was the cleanest it has ever been, and he passed multiple housing inspections due to the work they put in.
				&ldquo;I want to help other people. I want to give my all to that individual, because somebody has to,&rdquo; said Fortin.
				She ensures that the people in the neighborhood are not taking advantage of her client, and she helps grocery shop and prep meals each week. She also helps with his mail to ensure his bills are being paid in a timely manner. &ldquo;She is very, very, special to me&rdquo;, said her client.
				&ldquo;I love what I do, I do not know what I would do without my people. They add so much to my life,&rdquo; said Fortin.
				The Hero of the Year Award is part of BAYADA&rsquo;s Hero Program, which allows the company to recognize and reward those who exceed the highest standards of quality care and work ethic at an office, division and national level. Heroes can be nominated by their colleagues and clients. All BAYADA employees and clients can nominate any registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, home health aide, or other professional caregivers
				&ldquo;I am beyond impressed with our inspiring heroes this year, as I am every year, but especially in light of these challenging times during the COVID-19 pandemic,&rdquo; said Baiada. &ldquo;This year&rsquo;s heroes truly show what it means to deliver care with excellence, reliability and compassion, and I am grateful for their hard work.&rdquo;
