PLAINS TWP. &mdash; Reflecting the fact that all teaching is being done virtually until at least Nov. 23, the Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center Joint Operating Committee dropped its previous hybrid meeting system &mdash; some members sitting in the cafeteria while others joined via Zoom &mdash; and held Monday&rsquo;s meeting fully remote.
				Issues regarding COVID-19 in Luzerne County that prompted the decision to go fully remote were not discussed, though Solicitor Jack Dean did point out he had heard the state was expected to make an announcement regarding restrictions amid a strong surge of new cases locally and statewide since early October.
				The board approved renewal of consulting actuarial services with Conrad Siegel at a cost of $5,000. Conrad Siegel is widely used by local school districts to help manage insurance plans and compliance with insurance laws.
				The board also ratified previous approval for about 15 teachers to attend the virtual 29th Annual Conference on Integrated Learning Nov. 4 and 5. The cost was $25 per person and was covered with federal Perkins grant funding. Approval was also given for Janice Leiby, the horticulture instructor, to attend a virtual professional pest manager&rsquo;s school at a cost of $50.
				And the board approved the hiring of Annie Barish as a practical nursing instructor.
