Maryclaire Ishee &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Sept. 7, 1992 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Maryclaire McCauley Ishee, of Herndon, Va., died Monday, Sept. 7, at
homeBorn and raised in Exeter, she was the daughter of the late Ellen O'Brien
and Alphonsus McCauley. She graduated summa cum laude from College
Misericordia. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She was a pianist, and published prose and poetry, for which she won many
awards, including first prize for poetry at the 1939 World's Fair. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She had resided in Washington, D.C., where she worked as a historian for
the War Production Board, and later as a science and medical editor for the
press section of the Voice of America. She also served as a medical editor for
the Surgeon General, as a legislative aide on Capitol Hill and as a personal
aide to then-Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She met her future husband, Tommy Coble Ishee, while they were both in
doctoral programs at George Washington University. They celebrated their 41st
wedding anniversary in September 1992. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 From 1953 to 1957, she and her husband wrote and published the town of
Herndon's first newspaper "The Herndon Virginian." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 After several years, she returned to Washington, D.C., where she was
instrumental in the formation of a community-wide volunteer corps which
provided sports activities and cultural enrichment classes to Washington D.C.
youth. In the 1960s, she helped the Potomac Basin Federation, an ad hoc group
of private citizens from Virginia, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania and West
Virginia who successfully opposed proposed federal legislation that would have
removed local control over water issues in the Potomac River Basin. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She returned to Herndon in 1967, and worked for many years as an agent and
broker with Herndon Realty. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children, Tommy C. II,
Charlotte, N.C.; John L., George G., Ellen M. Commerce, Mary Katherine Ishee
and Annette C. Ishee, all of Herndon, Va.; James J., Manassas, Va.; Elizabeth
Levy, Bethlehem; Mrs. Steven (Laurie A.) Christensen, Bel Air, Md.; Jeanette
C. Ishee, Baltimore, Md.; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister,
Grace McCauley Collins, Denver, Colo. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Funeral services and interment were held in Virginia. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cancer Research.
