Joseph Opal &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Nov. 23, 1992 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Joseph "Sarge" Opal, of the Sherman Hills Apartments, Wilkes-Barre, died &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Monday in the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Wilkes-BarreBorn in
the Storm Hill section of Wilkes-Barre Township, he was a son of the late
Thomas and Mary Kowalski Opiel cq . He attended Wilkes-Barre township schools
and served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1961. He was a member of SS. Peter
and Paul Church, Plains. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was preceded in death by a sister, Sophie Iwicki; brothers, Jacob and
John Opiel. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are a brother, Ted Opiel, Plains; sisters, Jule Nareski, Red
Rock; Mary Materna, Plains; Eleanor Sowler, Baltimore, Md.; Ann Perez,
Norristown. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Private funeral services will be Wednesday from the Walter W. Lisman &amp; Son
Funeral Home, 233 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian
Burial in SS. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Plains. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 There will be no calling hours.
