Edward Materna &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Nov. 23, 1992 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Edward Materna, of West Merritt Street, Plains, died Monday in the Valley &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Crest Nursing Home, Plains Township, where he had been a guest for several
monthsBorn in Wilkes-Barre Township, he was a son of the late Joseph and
Josephine Rapala Materna. He attended Wilkes-Barre Township schools and was
employed for 40 years as a manager of the American Furniture Co. of
Wilkes-Barre. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Plains. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He and his wife, the former Mary Opiel, celebrated their 55th wedding
anniversary on June 28. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was preceded in death by a son, Edward; brothers, Louis, Charles and
Todd; sisters, Bridget, Stella and Mary Materna. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Joel, Wilkes-Barre; sisters,
Mrs. John (Loretta) Wroblewski, Ashley; Mrs. Jack (Helen) Sandel, Va.; Mrs.
Paul (Henrietta) Evans, Middletown, N.J.; Mrs. Florence Glazeski,
Wilkes-Barre. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Private funeral services will be held Wednesday at the convenience of the
family from the Walter W. Lisman &amp; Son Funeral Home, 233 S. Washington St.,
Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in SS. Peter and
Paul Church, Plains. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 There will be no calling hours.
