TUNKHANNOCK -- Just when the Wyoming Valley Coaches Association Girls'
Volleyball All-Star match seemed certain to go five games, the North squad
settled down. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And the South had to settle for a 3-1 defeat at Tunkhannock High School on
Thursday night. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; "We matched up really well," said Hanover coach Jim Donnelly, who coached
the South with Coughlin coach Bob Thomas. "On paper, we looked better." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The North, coached by North Pocono's Maria Tonti and Abington Heights'
Moira Hair, was basically divided into two separate units. Unit 1 captured the
opener 15-3 and the third game 15-0. Unit 2 lost to the South 15-5 in game
two, then rallied for a 15-8 victory in game four. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "They were a little nervous and had the jitters in the first game," Tonti
said of her second unit's 15-5 loss. "Moira and I told them not to worry about
doing what's right or wrong. Just do what comes natural." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The South took a 4-1 lead in game four behind the serving of Lake-Lehman's
Stacey Paculavich, who had two aces. The North eventually took the lead for
good, 8-7, on a service point by Heather Fruehan of North Pocono. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The North increased the lead to 13-7 with a five-point run. Dallas' Theresa
Fagan served for the points, but the net play of Tunkhannock's Dawn Durling
played a big part. Fruehan put the match away with a service point after the
teams went through seven service rotations. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The North grabbed a 7-0 lead in the opener behind the spiking of Pittston
Area's Jenny Meade, Tunkhannock's Jody Brown and Nicole Wall. The team later
ran off the game's final seven points, with Tunkhannock's Randi Purdy serving
them, to take a 1-0 game lead. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "We planned on running a system, but the problem was that everyone wasn't
at practice on Tuesday," said Thomas, who along with Donnelly had just two
practices to prepare the South for the match. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Still, the South rebounded in game two to knot the match at 1-1. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Paculavich set the tone with a stuff and a block to open the second game.
Crestwood's Dani Mayka later added three service points, the last an ace,
giving the South a 7-3 lead. Hanover's Liz Draht added solid play at the net,
and her middle hit moved the South to a 14-5 lead. After both teams sided out,
Draht served for the game-winning point. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Game three was completely dominated by the North. Brown and Abington
Heights' Sevja Mueller and Jenn Smith controlled the net. Mueller also ran off
seven consecutive service points in the shutout. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
