WILKES-BARRE TWP. -- Hi ho. Hi ho. It's off to the mall we go. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That's the refrain kids and spirited adults alike will be chanting come
March 20, when The Disney Store is expected to open at the Wyoming Valley
Mall. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; It will be the first venture in Northeastern Pennsylvania for the 5
-year-old retailer, which aims to make "each visit seem like a trip to
Disneyland," according to company literature. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The pastel-drenched stores are graced with giant video screens showing
Disney movies. More than 3,000 items are sold, from $1.50 magnets to original
art works costing $4,000, as well as Mickey Mouse jean jackets, "101
Dalmations" T-shirts and movie video cassettes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 More than half the merchandise targets adults. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Disney tends to appeal to the whole family. Our guest really is everybody
from infant to grandparent," said Debbie Bohnett, director of marketing for
The Disney Store Inc. in Glendale, Calif., the retailing arm of The Walt
Disney Co. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Wyoming Valley Mall was picked because of its distance from other
Disney stores and family-oriented clientele, she said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A spokeswoman for the mall's owner, Crown American Corp., of Johnstown,
predicted Disney will further enhance the center's popularity. The mall has
just one unleased space. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "The Disney Store is a nationally recognized retailer that for the most
part has only gone into large metropolitan areas. The fact that they're
interested in Wilkes-Barre is a good indication of the success of the Wyoming
Valley Mall," said Christine Menna, the spokeswoman. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "The high occupancy rate indicates the mall's already drawing shoppers and
it (The Disney Store) is just going to add to the whole tenant mix there." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Disney Store will occupy a 3,600-square-foot space near Sears, formerly
held by Wall-to-Wall Sound before it moved elsewhere in the mall. Another new
store, Champs sporting goods, will open in January. The mall's Patio Food
Court will be filled when Porky's, a barbecue stand, opens before Christmas. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Disney already operates three suburban Philadelphia stores and one in
Pittsburgh. A fourth Pennsylvania store will open March 13 in Lancaster. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The first Disney Store opened in March 1987 near the company's headquarters
in Glendale, Calif. Today there are 191 Disney Stores in the U.S., Europe and
Japan. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 This is the first Disney lease for Crown American, which owns 30 malls in
11 states, mostly in middle market areas like Williamsport, Wilkes-Barre and
Scranton.
