Trout stocking continues in area lakes &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 While many sportsmen are now concerned with the hunting seasons, there is
still some fine fishing available in the Keystone StateIn addition, the
Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is continuing its winter trout stocking
program. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The trout stockings will continue throughout December in 61 lakes scattered
through 44 Pennsylvania counties. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Commission plans to liberate 123,580 trout during its winter stocking
operation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Anglers must remember that trout fishing is limited to approved trout
waters. The daily creel limit is three throughout the winter season, and the
size limit is seven inches. A trout stamp is required. The 1993 fishing
licenses become effective Jan. 1. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Local counties and the lakes that will receive trout include Columbia,
Briar Creek Lake; Lackawanna, Chapman Lake and Merli Sarnoski Lake; Luzerne,
Irena Lake and Sylvan Lake; Monroe, Tobyhanna Lake; Pike, Fairview Lake;
Susquehanna, Quaker Lake; Wayne, Long Pond and Upper Woods Pond; and Wyoming,
Lake Winola. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Commission reports a safe season opener &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Reports from the Pennsylvania Game Commission's six regional field offices
indicate that the opening day of the traditional small game and fall turkey
seasons may have been the safest on record. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 While many hunters have voluntarily used fluorescent orange as a safety
measure in recent years, the Oct. 31 opener marked the first time Pennsylvania
small game and turkey hunters were required to wear 250 square inches of the
bright orange colorings. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 According to the Commission's hunter education chief, Jim Filkosky of
Harrisburg, there was only one serious accident. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That occurred in Franklin County. A man loading wood into a truck was
mistaken for a turkey and was stuck with a rifle bullet from a distance of
about 100 yards. The victim was wearing a gray sweatshirt. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Commission said that 15 turkey hunters were injured on the opening day
of the fall season last year, and 12 were shot on opening day in 1990. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 While it's too early in the season for predictions, reports suggest the new
safety regulations do appear to be effective.
