YATESVILLE -- Berwick's Ron Powlus just keeps getting more impressive every
time he touches a football. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And the Bulldogs certainly enchanced their rating as the nation's top prep
football team, according to USA Today. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On Friday night, the 6-foot-4 senior was 11-for-14 for 244 yards to capture
the Pennsylvania state career passing title and lead the Bulldogs to a 47-0
victory over Pittston Area. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Powlus, who has started for three seasons, now has 6,330 yards passing. The
previous record holder was Rick Shoemaker of the Stroudsburg Area, who had
6337 yards in a four-year career. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Ronnie's just phenomenal," said Berwick coach George Curry. "He's in
another league." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Powlus is a truly outstanding quarterback," said Pittston Area coach Sal
Licata. "He's also an outstanding young man, a credit to his family, himself
and his team." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Berwick, now 10-0 with the win, scored on its first five possessions. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Powlus had two rushing touchdowns, both on 2-yard runs, and threw for two
more. Both touchdown receptions, including an amazing 73-yard strike, were
hauled in by Mike Bennett, a sophomore. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Bennett just keeps getting better," said Curry, "in fact, the whole team
played great. Everybody did his job, from the quarterback on down." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Bulldogs also got two touchdowns from senior fullback Jason Soboleski.
He only carried the ball our times for 47 yards, including touchdown runs of 1
and 4 yards. Mike Sobolewski added the other Bulldog score on a 25-yard run in
the third quarter. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Not to be outdone, the Bulldog defense also turned in a great performance.
The 'Dawgs recorded eight sacks in the game, led by Ryan Wolfe and Cam Newman,
who sacked the Patriots' quarterbacks twice each. Newman also partially
blocked a Pittston punt and Ryan Mason picked off a Mark Thomas pass early in
the second quarter. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "We moved the ball offensively," said Licata, whose team falls to 1-9 with
the loss, "but they are simply a great team. Our kids could have laid down,
but they didn't We're proud to say that we played such a good team and we wish
them luck in the playoffs, they represent our conference well." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Even though the Patriots were shutout, they picked up 70 passing yards. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
