WVIA-FM to present a live holiday program &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 SPREADING SOME `MISTLETOE' -- Christopher Shaw and Bridget Ball will
perform at the studios of WVIA-FM &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ******************** WVIA Radio, 89.9-FM will present a Christmas concert,
"Mountain Snow and Mistletoe," with folk musicians Bridget Ball and
Christopher Shaw, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 8 p.m. The concert will be broadcast
live on WVIA-FM; an audience is welcome to attend the free event at the radio
studio off Route 315 in Jenkins Township, and hosted by George Graham. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The concert is one in a series of events celebrating the upcoming 20th
anniversary of WVIA-FM. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The studio audience is invited to sing along, harmonize, help tell a
round-story or just sit back and enjoy the magic as the husband-and-wife duo
weaves ~old favorite carols, songs by contemporary singer-songwriters and
their own original compositions together with stories and reminiscences in the
spirit of Christmas. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bridge Ball is well known to many in Northeastern Pennsylvania through her
memorable appearances at the Chicory House in Wilkes-Barre and the Luzerne
County Women's Conference. She tours as a solo artist all over the United
States and is rapidly gaining recognition as a significant contemporary folk
songwriter. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Ball grew up in a large family in central New York State where her mother
taught her to sing old Al Jolson songs. Years later later she released her
first record, "Duffy Rose," which was named one of 1988's Top Ten Albums by
WUMB in Boston, one of the nation's premier acoustic music radio stations. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In 1989 Ball released "Mothers and Daughters," based on a one-woman show
she wrote and presented around the country, including a landmark performance
on Mother's Day 1991 at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Adirondack singer, songwriter and storyteller Christopher Shaw was raised
in Caldwell, N.Y., now known as the town of "Lake George." His father,
grandfather and great-grandfather were steamboat pilots, and Shaw was too, for
a while. His earliest memories, he says, are of boat pilots, trappers, guides,
hunters and fishermen, all of whose stores now emerge in his songs and tales
of his native region. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 His talents are evident on his two albums, "Adirondack" and "Born and
Raised," which feature his silk-and-grit baritone and rock solid guitar work,
along with backup performances by such artists as John Sebastian, Vassar
Clements and Rory Block, among other notables. Like Ball, Shaw tours the
country, a favorite of families and an ambassador for his Adirondack heritage,
playing clubs, concerts and festivals. He appeared this past August at the
Philadelphia Folk Festival. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Ball and Shaw were married in 1984 and built themselves a "sweet little
house on a tiny little lake" near Albany, N.Y. They are well known figures in
their region's busy folk scene. Among their other activities, for several
years they co-hosted "Great Acoustics: Live From the Hudson River Cafe," a
variety show that was heard on many public radio stations around the country. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In 1991, they teamed up to record together for the first time. The result
was the successful album of holiday music called "Mountain Snow and
Mistletoe." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The album earned praise from the press, and Shaw's song, "Ten Dollar
Christmas," was played on commercial Adult Contemporary and Country stations
from coast to coast. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Admission to "Mountain Snow and Mistletoe" with Bridget Ball and
Christopher Shaw is free, but seating is limited and reservations are a must.
