 The Pennsylvania Society will honor television star and comedian Bill Cosby
at its 94th annual dinner on Saturday at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York
City. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Cosby, a Philadelphia native, will be the principal speaker and receive the
society's Gold Medalist Award for Distinguished Achievement. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The society also will donate $25,000 in Cosby's honor to a scholarship for
the nursing program at Temple University. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Since 1909, the society has presented a gold medal to a Pennsylvania native
who has made noteworthy achievements in the fields of business, government,
literature and the arts. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Previous winners include Cardinal John O'Connor, Penn State football coach
Joe Paterno, former Gov. Richard Thornburgh, former U.S. Secretary of
Transportation Drew Lewis, Andrew Wyeth and Andrew Carnegie. The society
presented its Distinguished Citizen of the Commonwealth Award to former U.S.
Rep. Daniel J. Flood in 1977. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In 1899, business leaders who lived in New York City held the first dinner
to celebrate their ties to Pennsylvania. Ten years later the society began to
award its gold medal award. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The society has approximately 1,700 members. About 1,500 people are
expected to attend the black-tie dinner on Saturday. Among the guests
scheduled to attend are Gov. Robert P. Casey and U.S. Senators Arlen Specter
and Harris Wofford.
