 Council OKs budget &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On a 5-2 vote Tuesday, borough council passed its 1993 budget, which holds
the line on taxesCouncil members Marlyn Zlotek and Gerald Jarrett voted
against the budget. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 But the $641,400 spending plan, which holds the property tax rate at 58.3
mills, came under fire. Zlotek questioned the money appropriated for appointed
officials. The amount totalled $5,400 more than what was budgeted. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Someone is going to receive $5,400 more and I wondered who it is," Zlotek
said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Zlotek also said she found several more discrepancies in the budget and
wanted to discuss them before she voted. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "If there are corrections to be made, we'll make them in January,"
solicitor Thomas Makowski said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A special meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday for budgetary purposes
and to discuss tax ordinance. "It's a contingency plan," president Stanley
Pertroski said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Zlotek asked Petroski why items she wanted to be part of the agenda were
eliminated. They included a resolution for Department of Community Affairs
calling for a study of all departments and $48,000 eliminated from the budget
for dispatching services. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I deem what should be on the agenda since I was elected council
president," Petroski said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In other business: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The council voted to hire at $185 per hour the attorney Timothy Reilly from
the firm of Morgan, Lewis and Bockius of Philadelphia. Reilly will handle the
borough's appeal of the recent state Labor Relations Board decision to
reinstate four dispatchers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Petroski said $1.8 million in Housing and Urban Development funds have been
released and is in the custody of the County Redevelopment Authority. Petroski
said the money will be used for flood protection, borough improvements and to
purchase three fire trucks.
