 ASHLEY -- With her Cherry Kool-Aid-stained smile and blond curly hair, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 most people don't realize that Breanne Zimmerman, 7, isn't like most kids. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Everyone thinks she's normal," says her mother, Tina Zimmerman. When a man
once saw Tina pushing 70-pound Breanne in a stroller he commented that Breanne
seemed a little too old and too big to be pushed. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I feel like they should be able to see it but they don't," Tina says. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Escaping the eye of the casual observer is the fact that since her birth,
doctors have given Breanne little chance of ever walking or speaking. She has
cerebral palsy, meaning she has little control of her muscles, and she is also
mentally retarded. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 To move around, Breanne must either crawl like a baby or be confined to a
wheelchair, or stroller, her mother says. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Breanne Zimmerman is being featured in "The Book of Dreams," a series of 11
stories allowing Times Leader readers to contribute money to help families and
individuals with specific needs during the holidays. This year's goal is
$9,385.01. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Because of her condition, Breanne needs a special $872 adult stroller so
she can ride on public buses again, says Tina. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 After using the same stroller since she was 2 years old, Breanne has now
outgrown it. Unlike a wheelchair, a stroller is easier for her mother to load
and unload from a bus. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "When I'm by myself I can't lug her and the wheelchair on the bus," Tina
says. "With the stroller I could do it with one hand." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 As it is now, Tina occasionally uses the old stroller, even though
Breanne's feet sometimes drag on the ground. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "A couple of times I thought the brake was on and it was her feet," Tina
says. There have even been a few times when Breanne has almost tipped over the
stroller, in which she's held by one, thin safety strap around her waist. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "She knows she can get out of it," says Breanne's mom. With magician-like
skill, the youngster often squirms from under the waist strap as if trying to
escape a rope keeping her in. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Tina Zimmerman, a single mother, getting government assistance to care for
her three children, can't afford to buy the special stroller for her daughter.
Until Breanne can get one, most of her trips out of the house will only be to
school, Tina says. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "If I don't get it she would never be able to ride on the bus," her mother
concludes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Without the stroller, Breanne won't get to see the fountain in
Wilkes-Barre's Public Square. Mesmerized by its sights and sounds, Breanne can
look at it for hours, her mother says. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 When Christmas comes, Tina usually takes Breanne to see the lighted tree in
the fountain's place. It's been a long time since Breanne has been able to see
either the tree or the fountain. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 With the stroller Breanne Zimmerman could venture outside again. "I'd put
her coat on, snuggle her up and take her on the bus because she loves the bus
rides," her mother says.
