WILKES-BARRE -- A Duryea woman who pleaded no contest to conspiracy to
commit theft in connection with the embezzlement of more than $33,000 from the
United Credit Bureau Services Inc. was placed on five years probation Friday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Annette Paula Gromelski, 29, of New Street, must also make restitution of
$16,715. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gromelski entered her plea in September. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She was charged with conspiring with her cousin, Michael Lefchak, former
executive director of the business, to participate in a scheme to steal money
from the United Credit Bureau Services Inc. between 1987 and 1990. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 According to the arrest affidavit, Gromelski, who did not work at the
business, received checks from Lefchak from United Credit Bureau Services Inc.
She cashed the checks and returned half of the amount to Lefchak. An audit of
the business determined Gromelski received 156 checks from Lefchak between
July 17, 1987, and July 27, 1990. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lefchak, of Pittston, is awaiting sentencing on number of charges in
connection with the embezzlement scheme.
