 SCRANTON -- Ann Turlip usually isn't a big gun for the University of
Scranton women's basketball team. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The 5-foot-8 junior guard is more likely to be used as a silencer. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Yet Turlip can be a lethal weapon, and was just that as the Lady Royals
routed archrival King's College, 96-56, Wednesday at the Long Center. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She scored a game-high 16 points as Scranton won its second Middle Atlantic
Conference Northeast Section contest in as many nights. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Lady Royals improved to 5-0 overall and are 2-0 in sectional play. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 King's, 2-2 overall, is 0-1 in the MAC Northeast. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I don't usually attract the other team's best defensive player," Turlip
said. "I'm not known as an offensive threat." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Yet she was 7-of-11 from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 from the foul line
and led a balanced scoring attack. Lynne Kempski had 15 points for Scranton,
Jackie Dougherty had 13, Mary Strasser chipped in 12 coming off the bench and
Sue Sitnik and Katie Geiger each added eight. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "People like to concentrate on Lynne, Katie and Jackie," Turlip said. "The
pressure comes off me. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I just wanted to go out and play my game. Usually, I concentrate on
defense." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In Scranton's 100-47 victory over FDU-Madison Tuesday, Turlip did a
masterful defensive job. She held Simon Edwards, FDU's top gun, to just 11
points, with most of those coming after the Lady Royals were rolling. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "She's an all-purpose player," Scranton coach Mike Strong said of Turlip.
"She the kid I keep rotating in and out of the starting line up. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "It seems every time I take her out of the starting line up she goes out
and proves that she should be in it." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Turlip started against the Monarchs and helped the Lady Royals open a quick
13-3 lead. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "King's has always been sort of rivalry for us," Turlip said. "We always
get pumped up for them. We wanted to come out and hit them hard in the
beginning." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Scranton kept pounding away and stretched it lead to 46-24 at halftime,
then to 30 points early in the second half. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I can't hide the fact that we can score from every position on the court,"
said Strong, whose team nearly scored 100 points for the third straight game.
"Actually, we were pretty sloppy at times. We held our intensity for about
two-thirds of the game. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "But back-to-back MAC win, I'm pleased with that." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Julie Harvilchuk led the Monarchs with 13 points. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "We made too many mistakes," said King's coach Robin Cummins, whose team
committed 28 turnovers. "They took advantage of every mistake." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Dorothy Downing had nine points for the Monarchs and Michelle Kulbitsky and
Joan Cameron each had eight. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Jackie Dougherty did a nice defensive job on Joan Cameron," Strong said.
"Joan is a good player and Jackie did a nice job on her." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Dougherty led the Lady Royals with 11 rebounds. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "They're very balanced," Cummins said of Scranton. "You can't concentrate
on any one person. Their shooting is very impressive. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I feel we're a much better team than we showed. We have to go back and
work hard and bounce back from this." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Dawn Ermert tossed in a game-high 22 points Wednesday night to lead host
Alvernia College to a 77-50 victory over Marywood. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Alvernia jumped out to a 39-17 halftime lead. Marywood cut the margin to
60-47 with six minutes remaining in the game, but could get no closer. Tracie
Rieder led the Pacers with 18 points. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Marywood fell to 2-2, while Alvernia upped its mark to 2-0. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
