Bill Staines will perform on Friday, Dec. 10 at the next Chicory House
concert &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Master folk singer coming to Chicory House &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tunesmith, folk singer, guitar picker, champion yodeler and genuine
American troubadour, Bill Staines represents the very essence of American folk
musicThe author of some of the best-known and loved songs in American folk
music, Staines will invite the audience to sing them along with him when he
appears at the Chicory House in Wilkes-Barre on Friday, December 10, at 8:30
p.m. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The nonprofit, volunteer-operated Chicory House is Northeastern
Pennsylvania's only venue dedicated to presenting folk music and dance. Its
coffeehouse concerts are held in the Community Room of St. Stephen's Episcopal
Church, South Franklin Street across from Boscov's, in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
Doors will open for Bill Staines' concert at 8 p.m. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bill Staines is "as much a part of Americana as the roads he's traveled and
the tales he's penned," according to Dirty Linen magazine. A New England
native who's spent the better part of more than 20 years in folk music on the
road, entertaining and getting to know people from all parts of the country
and walks of life, Staines makes his songs out of the fabric of their lives.
His music grows naturally out of the lives of real people, from ordinary
midwestern prairie folk to the adventurers of the Yukon. More than a few of
his songs have become part of the shared, common experience uniting people
across the continent. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The elderly couple's romantic love song, "Roseville Fair"; the hard-luck
rodeo cowboy's song as he gratefully returns to his "Sweet Wyoming Home"; the
inspired silliness and simple truth of "(All God's Critters Got) A Place in
the Choir," sung in schools and church choirs all over the world and published
as a popular children's book... anyone with a passing familiarity with folk
music probably knows some Bill Staines songs, songs often mistaken for
"traditional" folk songs. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Staines himself is a captivating entertainer with a smooth baritone voice
and easygoing manner. He's also a champion yodeler, having learned the skill
by listening to Jimmie Rogers records at low speed. In concert, he performs
not only his own songs but some traditional folk tunes and contemporary
country ballads and delights in having the audience participate in many of the
numbers. Between songs his low-key stage manner enhances his dry wit and his
perfect sense of comic timing. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Admission to Bill Staines' Chicory House concert will be $7 at the door.
There are no advance sales or reserved seats; table and other seating will be
on a first-come, first-served basis. Desserts and beverages will be available
for purchase; there will also be a good selection of Bill Staines' tapes and
songbooks. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
