 New mayor sworn in &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Joseph Satkowski was retained as president and Jean Stelma as vice
president &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Monday night at Avoca Borough Council's reorganization meetingSix council
members and the mayor took the oath of office from Luzerne County Judge Joseph
Augello. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 James Haddock is the new mayor, succeeding James Durkin. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Five council members were sworn in for four-year terms. They are John
Boone, Tom Goul, Ken Manganiello, William Hadley and Maryann Tigue. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Susan Lelack was sworn in for a two-year term filling the unexpired term of
the late councilman Jack O'Malley. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Tax Collector Helen Lampman will be sworn in later, because she is ill. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Avoca has a nine-member council, with each of the three wards represented
by three council members. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The council retained the following employees: Charles McCormick, solicitor;
James McGlynn, street commissioner; Keith Patterson, borough worker;
Berkheimer Associates, tax collections; Deborah Parente, treasurer; Dr. David
George, health officer; Michael Pasonick, engineer; Ann Baclasky, secretary;
Stephen Yokimishyn, payroll clerk; Helen Lampman, refuse fee collector. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Also reappointed were part-time officers: Sgt. James Collins, patrolmen
Anthony DeMark, Brian Russo, Edward Lukowich, Mike Savokina, Mike Stefano and
Edward Kowalski. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Meetings will continue the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m., with
work sessions prior to the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In other business, the council: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Awarded a one-year garbage contract to J. P. Mascaro of Nanticoke, at
$78,500. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Set the garbage fee at $80, with deadline for payment Feb. 21.
