COMPANY VOWS TO RETURN 





MOOSIC -- Just like the phoenix painted on the window of it bingo hall, the
Moosic Hose Company No. 1 will rise again, Fire Chief Dominic Lombardi vowed
Thursday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 On Wednesday night, fire caused extensive damage to the company's fire
station on Main Street while firefighters were away fighting another fire.
Three engines worth about $750,000 were in the building at the time and
probably were destroyed, Lombardi said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Until the equipment is replaced and the building is refurbished, Moosic's
fire coverage will be provided by the borough's other fire company, the
Greenwood Hose Co., and fire companies from neighboring towns, Lombardi said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The fire was brought under control in about an hour and was contained in
the one-story prefabricated metal firehouse, he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 State police fire marshal Rob Castner of the Dunmore barracks said the fire
was accidental, caused by an electrical fault in the station's wiring. "There
was shorting in the cable that supplied power to the siren," he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The hose company has had its share of bad luck. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Just last month, an accidental fire at the station destroyed the company's
$150,000 rescue truck. And five years ago, fire destroyed the company's bingo
and banquet hall. The hall was rebuilt with community donations, Lombardi
said, but it received some smoke and water damage in Wednesday's fire. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The blaze began about 25 minutes after firefighters responded to a fire at
the Moosic Christian and Missionary Alliance Church on Rocky Glen Road.
Castner said the cause of that fire also was electrical. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 As the company's firefighters spent Thursday cleaning up the bingo hall,
Lombardi said the company will sponsor additional fund-raisers this year to
raise the money to replace the lost equipment. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The destroyed trucks were insured, "but you can never insure yourself 100
percent," Lombardi said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "We've always appreciated the help the community has given us in the past,"
he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The company's major fund-raiser is bingo, which is held twice a week. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
