Joseph Karkut &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Jan. 16, 1994 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Joseph J. Karkut, of Wagner Street, Moosic, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ScrantonBorn in Dupont, he was the son of the late John and Katherine
Podedvorny Karkut. He worked in area coal mines and was last employed as a
carpenter for John J. Miller. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Gill; brothers,
Anthony and John; sister, Frances Knick. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are daughters, Gloria Schmitt, Moosic; Barbara Ransom, Scranton;
Diana Tabor and Mary Ann McDermott, both of Moosic; six grandchildren;
brothers, Albert and Frank, both of Dupont; several nieces and nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The funeral will be 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Stephen M. Lokuta Funeral
Home, 200 Wyoming Ave., Dupont, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in
Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Dupont. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
