 Jan. 21, 1994 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; John Wassel Sr., 86, of Star Route, White Haven, died Friday at the
Geisinger &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains TownshipBorn Jan. 5, 1908, in
Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Paul and Anna Wassel. He resided in
Buck Township for many years. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was employed for many years in local coal mines and later at Eberhard
Faber, Mountaintop, retiring in 1973. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a member of St. Elizabeth's Church, Bear Creek. He was also a member
of the United Mine Workers of America and a former member of the Liberty
Pigeon Racing Club. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Emily Estwanick, Nov. 14,
1990; and sister, Mrs. Mary Davis. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are sons, John P. Wassel Jr., Larksville; Edward J. Wassel,
Hanover Township; daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Patricia) McDade, Buck Township;
brother, Joseph Wassel, Wilkes-Barre Township; sister, Mrs. Helen Kotch,
Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Funeral services will be 9:15 a.m. Monday from the Nat &amp; Gawlas Funeral
Home, Park Ave. and South St., Wilkes-Barre, with funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in
St. Elizabeth's Church. The Rev. Anthony M. Urban, pastor, will officiate. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
