DREAM AT NAVY 





Marian Catholic football star Brian Kennedy made his dream come true this
week. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Almost. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The 6-foot-1, 170-pound quarterback announced this week that he'll attend
the Naval Academy Prep School (NAPS) next year, in the hopes of attending the
U.S. Naval Academy the following year and someday playing college football for
the Midshipmen. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Not all NAPS students qualify for the Naval Academy, but the year will give
him a chance to adjust to school, as well as possibly play football for Naval
Prep with four years of eligibility remaining. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That's the same route taken by current Navy quarterback Gary Kubiak. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 When Kennedy and Marian Catholic football coach Stan Dick sat down to
discuss colleges last year, Kennedy stated he was interested in going one
place -- the Naval Academy. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 One reason why Kennedy was so interested in Navy was because he wants to
get involved in aviation. Kennedy is interested in becoming a pilot, and the
Naval Academy was the only place that interested him. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I feel good about it," said Dick of Kennedy's decision. "Last spring when
we sat down to talk about schools, Brian said he wanted to go to Navy." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Kennedy was the starting quarterback for the Colts the last three seasons
and this year helped lead them to a 10-2 record year, the District 11 title,
and a berth in the PIAA Class A state playoffs. Kennedy passed for over 1,300
yards and 13 touchdowns in his senior year at Marian. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Kennedy became even more interested in Navy after he attended its football
camp last summer. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "When I went down for football camp, I liked the atmosphere and I did well
at the camp," said Kennedy. "I liked it down there, and that is where I wanted
to go." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Kennedy was so focused on going to Navy that he only took one college
visit, and that was to Navy, last weekend. Kennedy said he liked the coaches
and met some players while at the camp. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "He said that he liked Navy from the start and no other school could change
his mind," said Dick. "Brian was focused on them from the start, and Navy did
a great job recruiting him." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Other schools like Towson State University, Boston University, and Virginia
Military Institute were all interested in Kennedy. VMI was so interested in
Kennedy that they spent three hours in his house trying to recruit him on
Monday night, but Kennedy was sold on Navy. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Kennedy joins Joe Marsillio and Mike Makovec as the most recent Marian
Catholic quarterbacks that went to Division I schools. Marsillio will be a
senior at Maine this year and Makovec will be a senior at Army.
