 Jan. 8: Heavy gale accompanied with sleet. Severest known for years. Ice 14 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 inches thick harvestedJan. 18: Horsemen speed their flyers on the ice on
the Susquehanna. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Feb. 28: The thermostat registers 11 degrees below zero at Laurel Run. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 April 2: Heavy snowfall. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 1886: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Feb. 16: 8 inches of snow in Wilkes-Barre, 11 in Dallas, 18 at Glen Summit. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Feb. 24: Five below zero. Fine sledding. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Note: February the coldest month in 10 years, average 17 degrees. Coldest
