SNOW REMOVAL MOUNTS 





PITTSTON - Cost of snow removal mounts &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The recent snow and ice storms have cost the borough a lot of money. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Councilman Carl Rosenscrance reported Tuesday night that the borough has
exceeded its snow removal budget by $20,000. Included is $5,000 to $6,000 in
overtime pay, plus hiring additional heavy equipment such as a front-end
loader and big dump trucks. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In other business, the council: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Was notified by Penn Fuel Gas Co. that it is seeking a 10.6 percent
increase in natural gas rates. Sixteen months ago, the company was granted an
increase. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Approved a 30-day trial period for no parking on the church side of
Montgomery Avenue from Wyoming Avenue to Warren Street from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Monday through Friday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Learned that the borough recycled 23,410 pounds of paper and 12,006 pounds
of co-mingled items during January. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Received a recycling performance grant of $31,733. Councilman William
Goldsworthy said this is the largest recycling grant the borough ever
received. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Received applications for police officers positions from Christopher
Wickizer of West Pittston and David C. LaFalce of Lake Ariel. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Accepted the resignation of Bill Carey, school crossing guard. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Exonerated Tax Collector William Miller from uncollectible taxes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Approved payrolls for two time periods in January amounting to $31,985.36
and bills amounting to $30,783.25.
