HAZLETON -- A collapsed roof on the city's Roan Reservoir tank soon will be
repaired, city water authority officials said this week. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Hazleton City Authority awarded a contract this week to Pitt-Des Moines
Inc., to repair the roof. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Because of the urgency of getting the roof repaired, the water authority
did not consider any other contractors. The authority board met Monday and
Thursday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Pitt-Des Moines, original builders of the 5 million gallon water tank, is
expected to provide a proposal during the next few days. Repairs are expected
to exceed $182,000, the original cost to build the tank in 1969. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Work is expected to start during the next few days. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 No further damage to the tank has been discovered. A check of other
authority tanks has not revealed additional problems. The tanks were checked
by a field supervisor from Pitt-Des Moines. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The authority is not considering building a new tank because new
construction would cost more than repairing the old one. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In other business, the authority: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Considered a request from the city housing authority asking the water
authority to take over all water lines to the housing authority's family
development. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Approved payment of invoices totalling $61,145.14 for various goods and
services.
