NewsTalk callers split on place, method of AIDS education &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Of 22 people who called The Times Leader's NewsTalk line this week about
AIDS &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; education, 13 said schools are an appropriate place for children to learn
about AIDS. Callers who opposed AIDS education in schools said schools should
focus on academics and leave social and health issues to family and
churchesHere are some of the responses: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 School is meant for academics. Moral and social issues should be taught at
home and in the churches and in the synagogues. I think they already know
enough, but they just don't care and they're irresponsible. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I don't think children should learn about AIDS in school. But
unfortunately, parents are uneducated themselves, so it is necessary for them
to learn about AIDS in school. How far should we educate them? As far as we
have the information on it. AIDS is not a homosexual, bisexual, black or Asian
or any other disease. It is a human disease. Unfortunately, we have to teach
children in school. But if we do, let's teach them everything. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 To save the next generation from this terrible disease, AIDS education
should be taught in school. I think we should start teaching children as early
as we can and as much about AIDS as possible. Every child should know how the
disease is contracted. If we leave it up to home teaching that won't happen.
This isn't a petty argument over sex education; this is a desperate attempt to
save lives. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 AIDS is a terrible and tragic disease that affects many innocent and
not-so-innocent people. Education through family and family values is the key.
Why not teach children abstinence? It works, and it's guaranteed. It's been
proven scientifically that condoms have small imperfections that are small
enough to stop semen but not small enough to stop microorganisms that cause
the AIDS virus. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I think the schools should be teaching academics. All they need to do is
print up a flier, giving the dos and don'ts, since AIDS is a behavioral
disease. Maybe if they go back to teaching academics, children could read it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I don't necessarily think it's the place of the school districts to teach
the students about AIDS, but somebo
