Council should realize that soup kitchen gives this Valley its heart &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Twelve years ago I came to this town and started from the soup kitchen. I
was at the end of the line, but the soup kitchen kept me fed and I didn't have
to cross any wrong linesI admired what the churches and many tireless
volunteers were doing from that room. Thomas Leighton and other city council
members should thank these volunteers who have fed thousands of people. He,
Mayor Lee Namey and Company should go there for lunch someday and see what is
really happening. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Many of the undesirables Mr. Leighton speaks of are our senior citizens who
go there to relieve the shortage of food cash that they face as a result of
their meager checks. They are the handicapped and mentally disabled who travel
from far as Nanticoke. Many children are fed there. There are alcoholics, drug
addicts, and maybe some mentally deranged people too; but at least they are
concentrated in one place so our police can watch for the troublemakers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The volunteers restore hope when they give whatever food might be left over
to these needy who otherwise would have nothing at home to eat that night. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 When America sends food to Africa and other famine-stricken parts of the
globe, we not only aid human subsistence, but also we send a message of hope.
As Americans, we believe food and shelter are blessings that belong to all
human beings whomever and wherever they may be. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In Wilkes-Barre, our people have sent a message through our many church
parishes that in this town no one will ever be without food or shelter no
matter who they are. "The Valley With A Heart" has become a powerful keystone
of our community. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Our city councilmen Thomas Leighton and cohorts may have never known hunger
or the misfortunes of the downt
