RADIO PURCHASE 





WILKES-BARRE -- Times-Shamrock Communications Inc. of Scranton agreed
Monday to buy the operating licenses and the assets of two Luzerne County
radio stations -- WBAX-AM and WYOS-FM -- from Frank and Maley Inc. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 No purchase price was announced. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Times-Shamrock Group owns 10 other radio stations in six states, including
WEJL and Rock 107 in Scranton. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The company also owns The Scranton Times, The Sunday Times and The Tribune
newspapers. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 William Lynett, president of Shamrock Communications, said the company is
looking for a Wilkes-Barre area site to locate a sales office and main studio
for WBAX and WYOS. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Jim Davey, a company spokesman, said he will interview the 15 employees at
the two stations but none have been promised work following the buyout. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Shamrock filed an application for approval of the deal with the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) on Tuesday. If the regulators approve, the
sale should be complete within 90 days, Davey said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 No decision has been made yet about whether to alter the two stations'
current formats. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 WBAX, at 1240 on the AM dial, broadcasts with 1,000 watts 24 hours per day.
It features nostalgic songs from the 1930s and 1940s as part of the Satellite
Music Network. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 WYOS, with 3,000 watts, also broadcasts 24 h
