 SCRANTON -- Charlie Nanick is a born shooter. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sometimes, he's a scorer, too. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 On Wednesday, he was both. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The freshman on the University of Scranton men's basketball team poured in
30 points as the Royals kept their Middle Atlantic Conference playoff hopes
alive with a 77-65 victory over Drew University at the Long Center. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "The Freedom League is what I wanted," Scranton coach Bob Bessoir said. "I
didn't think we'd be fighting for a playoff spot." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Fight is not the right word here. Scranton is part of a five-team
free-for-all with the MAC Freedom League title and the league's four playoff
spots up for grabs. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In other league action Wednesday: King's won at Lycoming, Wilkes lost at
FDU-Madison, and Upsala won at Delaware Valley. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That leaves Wilkes and King's tied for top spot in the Freedom League with
10-3 records. Upsala is in third place at 9-4. Scranton and FDU-Madison are
tied for fourth place at 8-5. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Saturday is the final day of the regular season. Games involving playoff
contenders are: King's at Scranton, 3 p.m.; Wilkes at Upsala, 3 p.m.;
FDU-Madison at Drew, 2 p.m.. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 King's will win the Freedom League title if it defeats Scranton Saturday.
The Monarchs win the tiebreaker with Wilkes if the two teams finished tied. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "We're definitely looking forward to being the spoiler in that game,"
Nanick said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Scranton, on the other hand, must defeat King's and get some help to earn a
playoff spot. In addition to a Scranton victory, Wilkes must defeat Upsala or
Drew must defeat FDU-Madison for the Royals to get into the MAC playoffs. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Scranton, 14-9 overall, almost had its playoff hopes crushed against Drew.
The Rangers, 6-17 overall and 5-8 in the Freedom League, almost wiped 14 point
deficit. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "They hung around and hung around," Bessoir said. "We almost let them back
in the game. Charlie Nanick made sure that didn't happen." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Nanick was 10 of 14 from the field and a perfect eight of eight from the
free throw line in a torrid shooting performance. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "I love this gym," said the 6-foot-4 forward from Pompton Lakes, N.J. "I
love shooting in it." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Nanick, Jay Fairlamb (13 points) and Pat Beacham (11 points) helped
Scranton roar out to a 40-26 halftime lead. The Royals seemed on the verge of
blowing the game open at several points but couldn't quite do it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "We relaxed," Bessoir said. "Drew sensed the opportunity to win and took
advantage of it." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Rangers whittled away in the second half and got as close as four
points, 66-62, with just over two minutes left. Dan Pierce led Drew with 16
points, Kevin Ralph had 14, Aaron O'Hanlon added 13 and Charles Clinton
chipped in 10. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Nanick, however, hit some key baskets and free throws down the stretch that
helped Scranton keep the lead, then pull away in the final minutes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "He has the ability of shoot when he gets free," Bessoir said of Nanick.
"He's a shooter. There are some nights he's a scorer, too." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 WILLIAMSPORT -- Jack Schran scored a career high 36 points, including 21 in
the second half, to lead King's College to a 76-72 victory over Lycoming
College in a key MAC Freedom League game. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Monarchs moved into a first-place tie with Wilkes and can clinch the
Freedom league title with a win over Scranton at the Long Center at 3 p.m.

 MADISON, NJ. -- FDU-Madison opened the second half with a 16-2 run and
never looked back as it knocked off Wilkes, 71-63, in a key MAC Freedom League
matchup. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wilkes took a 41-40 lead into the halftime locker room on the strength of
nine first-half 3-pointers, led by John Harlan's three 3-point buckets. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 However, the Colonels (19-4 overall, 10-3 MAC) could not continue their
torrid long-range attack in the second half as they were 0-for-10 from
three-point range. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Jersey Devils, 15-7 overall and 8-5 in the Freedom League League were
led by Adrian Searight who finished with 20 points. Emmett Highbaugh chipped
in with 16 points for FDU. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 SCRANTON -- Kerry Rogers of Plains had a career game in Drew University's

 Rogers, a 5-7 freshman from Bishop Hoban, scored 23 points and grabbed 10
rebounds. Both figures were career highs. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Jackie Dougherty led the Lady Royals with 30 points and 11 rebounds.
Jennifer Nish added 18 points, Ann Turlip had 14 and Joelle Hudak added 11. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
