Airport Gets $200,000 Grant For Road Work

KINGSTON -- If it looks like a smoke detector, and it hangs like a smoke
detector, it's a smoke detector. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That's what police had to say Friday about a recent incident involving an
elderly woman who was duped into purchasing what she thought was a home
emergency response system, a device that alerts police, fire and ambulance
personnel in case of an emergency. The response system was actually three
smoke detectors. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Police said the 82-year-old woman paid $3,700 for two men to install the
battery-operated detectors, which retail for about $65. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Police said the incident happened in October, and a similar incident was
reported in the Tunkhannock area in Wyoming County. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The suspects are contacting the victims by telephone and in person, and
police say they believe there are other elderly victims who are afraid to come
forward. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Police said neither of the men is local residents, but both live in
Pennsylvania. One of them is in his 30s. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "We're expecting to make at least one arrest next week," said Kingston
Police Detective Dan Beky. "In the meantime, people should be wary of any
solicitation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "This could happen to anyone, not just seniors. I would advise people not
to make immediate payments. This is how they (con artists) operate." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Luzerne County District Attorney Peter Paul Olszewski Jr. has assigned a
county detective, Debbie Van Horn, to assist in the investigation. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Anyone who has been contacted either by telephone or in person to purchase
a similar system is asked to contact the Kingston police department at
