Reserve sympathy for Patrini's victims &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In reply to Charles Umphred's commentary (Dec. 7): &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Perhaps if all of society lived above the law, laws would not be needed.
But that is not the case. For those who choose to live with reckless abandon
and commit crimes against society, we have rules and regulations, known as
laws, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 which must be enforcedYour logic is quite faulty because Caroline Petrini
is in no way a victim. Rather, she is the one who chose to party, get behind
the wheel (with a blood alcohol count of .187 -- almost twice the legal
limit), drive at 50 mph in a 35 mph zone, weave in traffic, and move into a
right-turn-only lane where she impacted two young men, hurling them almost
two-thirds the length of a football field. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 My heart goes out to the true victims of this crime, the two young men
whose lives were brutally taken away, and to their grieving families. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 As for Caroline Petrini, she willfully broke the law, personally took two
lives, and now must face the consequences of her actions. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Case closed! &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
