Joseph Gizara &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Dec. 19, 1994 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Joseph L. Gizara, 75, of West Enterprise Street, Glen Lyon, Newport
Township, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 died Monday at Hospice Community Care, Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, after
a lengthy illnessA lifelong resident of Glen Lyon, he was the son of the late
Louis and Genevieve Gizara. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He had been employed as a miner for Blue Coal Corp. and later as a foreman
for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 20 years, retiring in
1982. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the European
Theater. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Wanamie, Newport Township. He was a
life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8353 in Glen Lyon, American
Legion Post 350 in Nanticoke, Italian American Sporting Club in Glen Lyon and
Newport Township Lions Club. He also was an auditor for Newport Township for
the past 30 years. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He and his wife, the former Ann Prushinski, celebrated their 48th wedding
anniversary on Oct. 12. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Roman Gizara, on Oct. 13,
1964. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Joseph J., Salem, Ill.; Paul,
New York City; daughter, Mrs. Richard (Barbara) Pelak, Dallas; four
grandchildren; sister, Sophie Milazzo, Jamesburg, N.J.; brothers, Edward and
Anthony, both of Baltimore; Stanley, Glen Lyon; and numerous nieces and
nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Military funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday from George A. Strish
Funeral Home Inc., 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon, with a Mass of Christian Burial
at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Glen Lyon. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
