Abandoned pipeline will reap profit for city authority &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Hazleton City Authority will profit from an abandoned pipeline that
runs through authority land in Carbon County. Robert Zientek, authority
manager, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; said the Getty Oil Co., former owner of the pipeline, years ago paid the
authority for rights to have the pipeline on the land. The oil company failed
to pay the annual lease agreement in 1987 so the agreement was terminated and
the pipeline was condemned in 1992. Now, Williams Telecommunications Group,
after a series of litigations, has agreed to pay the authority $22,000 for
rights to the pipeline and plans to run fiber optic cables through it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Spokeswoman blames minimal sales for closing of Insalaco's &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Minimal sales clinched the decision to shut down an Insalaco's Supermarket
on West Broad Street in Hazleton. It is to close Feb. 25. Melissa Margis,
Insalaco's spokeswoman, Pittston, said the store did only half as well in
sales as other stores in the chain. Margis said all the store's 80 employees
would be offered a job at one of Insalaco's other area stores. The West Broad
Street store was one of 45 Acme Markets in Northeastern Pennsylvania and
southern New York recently purchased by Penn Traffic Co., Insalaco's parent
company. The store was sold Jan. 19. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Chamber of commerce announces change of ownership, acquisition &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce has announced Earl Berger is the
new owner of Wright Motor Sales Co., state Route 93. He worked for the company
since 1967 and will continue to be the dealer-operator for Oldsmobile,
Cadillac, Mazda, Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep and Eagle. The dealership has been
in operation since 1921. The chamber also announced that Allen-Stevens Group,
owners of Allen Stevens Corp., Valmont Industrial Park, has acquired North
American Die Casting of Fredericksburg, Va., a manufacturer of zinc die cast
components. Allen-Stevens is a supplier of hardwood products to the door and
window industry. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Bank account missing $46,000, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 church official determines &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 One person had been responsible for depositing Sunday donations during the
time that St. Johns United Church of Christ says money disappeared. The
donations were to be deposited at PNC Bank in Conyngham from 1987 or 1988 to
1993. Donald Leidich, president of the church consistory, says $46,700 has
been determined to be missing from the bank account. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Leidich said he isn't accusing anyone of taking the money, but state police
and the Luzerne County district attorney's office are investigating the
discrepancy. Leidich said the church's governing board adopted a precautionary
measure in 1994 that calls for the responsibility for making deposits to
alternate among board members. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Supervisor says market permit fee will pay for traffic control &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Ronald Werner, chairman of the board of supervisors, said revenue from a
controversial $25-per-month permit fee for transient vendors at Hometown
Farmers Market will help pay for a policeman to direct traffic leading into
the market. Werner said traffic congestion along the portion of state Route 54
that gives access to the market is considerable and PennDOT has had to put up
two sets of cement barriers to limit access. Police Chief Edward Carroll said
he hasn't been contacted about how the board intends to use the permit money
but he confirmed that additional officers have had to work on Wednesdays, when
the market operates. A township ordinance which makes the permits mandatory
went into effect on Jan. 1. Some of the vendors are protesting the fees in
Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas. No date for a decision has been
announced. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
