<h3>With ID of missing woman&rsquo;s skull, teams with dogs look for other woman&rsquo;s remains.</h3>

HUNLOCK TWP. &ndash; Two cadaver dogs from the New York State Police led the way through dense woods in the township on Tuesday, 11 days after a skull of a woman missing since 2001 was found. 
The search began at about 9:30 a.m. at the Roaring Brook Baptist Church on Roaring Brook Drive near where the skull was recovered and expanded about a mile and a half in either direction along two streams, Roaring Brook and Lewis Run. 
Several roads were closed as the search continued until the early afternoon. 
State police Lt. Richard Krawetz, commander of the criminal investigators unit based at the Wyoming barracks, said he was hopeful the two dogs and the expanded search involving teams of investigators would uncover more human skeletal remains. 
Two boys found the skull with teeth in the wooded area near Roaring Brook off Roaring Brook Drive on April 2. Krawetz said a preliminary search of the area was conducted the day the skull was found and on April 3. 
State police on Monday said the skull was identified as that of Jennifer Barziloski after a dental examination by forensic odontologists Dr. John Hosage and Dr. Steven Bonomo. The skull has been sent for further DNA testing at the University of North Texas, Center for Human Identification, state police said. 
Barziloski, 18, of Lake Township, was reported missing by her family, shortly after she was last seen outside C Majors Sports Bar, Main Street, Edwardsville, on June 23, 2001. 
Krawetz said it remains unknown how the skull came to be in the wooded area. 
The two normally flowing streams flooded in September 2004 from remnants of Hurricane Ivan. That could have washed the skull and other skeletal remains downstream from another location, or wild animals could have carried away remains. 
The location where the skull was found is a dumping ground for mostly animal carcasses, Krawetz said. 
Investigators combing the hilly terrain looked under bridges, rocks, downed trees and thick brush searching for skeletal remains, clothing and jewelry. 
Krawetz said state police troopers, officers from the state Game Commission and Luzerne County detectives assisted in Tuesday&rsquo;s search. 
After the skull was recovered, state police asked the families of Barziloski and Phylicia Thomas for their dental records. 
Thomas, 22, was last seen at her Lake Township home on Feb. 11, 2004. 
Investigators drew some similarities in the disappearances of Barziloski and Thomas. 
Barziloski and Thomas knew each other and were associated with the same group of people, including Steven Martin, 32, who lived in a home on Golf Course Road in Ross Township, about a mile from where the skull was found. 
Martin was reportedly the last person to be seen with Barziloski outside the Edwardsville bar. He dated Barziloski&rsquo;s sister, Leann Barziloski, and was the father of her two children. 
In a 2004 interview, Martin said he talked to Thomas on the phone the night she disappeared when he called her home looking for her boyfriend, Ed Rudaski. 
Krawetz in 2004 called Martin a &ldquo;person of interest&rdquo; in the disappearance of Thomas. 
State police on Feb. 20, 2004, searched Martin&rsquo;s home, seizing an ATV, firearms, ammunition, an ash tray with cigarette butts and empty beer cans. It remained unknown if the cigarette butts and beer cans were analyzed to compare DNA with Thomas. 
Martin was not charged with any wrongdoing in the disappearances of Barziloski and Thomas.
Martin died at Hershey Medical Center on Aug. 11, 2005, a day after he was found hanging in a cell at the State Correctional Institution at Camp Hill, where he was jailed for a crash that killed a woman in December 2004. 
Martin led police on a chase through Wilkes-Barre and struck a vehicle occupied by Vera Simon at Wilkes-Barre Boulevard and Conyngham Avenue on Dec. 9, 2004, according to arrest records. Simon died Dec. 20, 2004, at the Community Medical Center, Scranton. 
Martin pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter in March 2005, and was serving four to 10 years in state prison.
