 Searle Duane Swisher Sr., 64, of Hillside Avenue, Port Allegany, formerly
of the Meshoppen area, died Wednesday at the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital,
Coudersport, following a lengthy illness. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Born June 8, 1931, in West Auburn, Susquehanna County, he was the son of
the late Searle P. and Lola M. Greene Swisher. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a graduate of Meshoppen High School, class of 1948, and played on
its baseball and basketball teams. Later, he graduated in 1953 from Lycoming
College, Williamsport, with a bachelor of arts degree, and was active with a
dance band. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. While enlisted in the
military, he graduated in 1959 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with
a master's degree in meteorology. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Before retiring from the military with the rank of major in 1967, he was
active on its baseball and softball teams. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was employed by the National Oceanonic Atmospheric Association for the
Atomic Energy Commission Administration, Oakridge, Tenn., as a meteorologist
from 1967 to 1986 before retiring. He coached Little League baseball and
basketball in Knoxville, Tenn. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a member of the Cedar Bluff Farragut Optimist Club; the National
Multiple Sclerosis Society; the Retired Officers Association; the McMinneville
American Legion, McMinneville, Tenn.; and the Franklin Lodge 263 F&amp;AM of
Laceyville. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are his wife, the former June Place Dunn; a daughter, Mrs.
Elizabeth Duran, Swansea, Mass.; sons, Searle Jr., Kingston, Tenn.; Carl of
Atlanta; Frederick of Goldsboro, N.C.; six grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Mrs.
Scott (Linda) Lyness, North Tonawanda, N.Y.; stepsons, John Dunn, West
Chester, Ohio; Thomas Dunn, Tonawanda, N.Y.; Christopher Dunn, Fairfield,
Ohio; 10 step-grandchildren; a brother, Robert, Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Mrs.
William (Betty) Van Dusen of Orlando, Fla.; Mrs. Ronald (Gail) Burr and Mrs.
Joanne Hinkley, both of Tunkhannock; several nieces and nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Funeral and committal services will be at 2 p.m. Monday from the Sheldon
Funeral Home, Main Street, Meshoppen, with the Rev. Dave Hinkley, of the
Meshoppen United Methodist Church, officiating. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment will be in the Jersey Hill Cemetery, Meshoppen, at a time and
date to be announced. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Members of the Franklin Lodge 263 F&amp;AM will conduct a Masonic service at 8
p.m. Sunday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Military services will follow the funeral, conducted by the Rought Hall
Post 510 American Legion of Black Walnut and assisted by the Endless Mountains
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3583, Mehoopany. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Multiple
Sclerosis Society, 26 Mason St., Exeter, 18643. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
