Accepting blame and developing trust refines humanity &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Community of Inter-Faith Action (CIFA) is composed of representatives
of several faiths, including many denominations within Christianity. All of
us, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; whether Christian or Jew, Hindu or Baha'i, work together toward peaceOne
prerequisite is the elimination of prejudice of all kinds. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Recent remarks by Ann Landers regarding His Holiness the Pope and his
ethnic background were deeply regrettable. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 We in CIFA take heart from her apology. It is indeed important to apologize
when something like this happens, because that initiates a healing process.
That healing can move forward when those hurt in turn accept someone's
apology. Then an essential ingredient of peacemaking can develop: mutual
trust. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 If there is one element fundamental to eliminating prejudice, it is
trustworthiness. With that virtue in place, people of different ethnic groups
can get together, confident that mistakes will be corrected and that the basic
relationships between people will bear fruit. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 When we trust each other, lots of otherwise unbearable tests no longer
destroy, but strengthen. "With fire we test the gold and with gold we test the
servant" is one indication of the possibilities for bringing out the gold
within our character that such tests provide. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Witness the overflowing response of goodwill that took place in the
aftermath of the theft of children's toys from Reach. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In this holiday season, CIFA gives thanks for the apology by Ann Landers,
and offers its prayers that bonds of mutual trust will be strengthened, here
in the Wyoming Valley and throughout the world. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The rising tide of tests requires that mutual respect and trustworthiness. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
