Letterman and Leno may be the late night heavyweights and O'Brien may have
the name of a legendary strong man, but there is only one true super hero in
the nighttime talk show slugfest and that's Space Ghost! &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 For the uninitiated, "Space Ghost: Coast To Coast" is cable outlet Cartoon
Network's hilarious and definitely off-beat entry and spoof of the late night
talk show wars. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The first of six new episodes premiers on The Cartoon Network tonight at 11
p.m. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Although he saved the galaxy on an almost daily basis in the late '60s on
his own cartoon show, Space Ghost has decided to come out of animated
retirement and try his hand at something a little more difficult: interviewing
celebrities. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Unfortunately, Space Ghost hasn't had much experience at his talk show gig.
He invariably winds up asking his guests questions such as "What are your
superpowers?" or "Do you have a secret identity?" When the self-absorbed host
grows tired with what his guests have to say, he usually cuts them off with
"Yea, whatever." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Transmitted from a satellite orbiting the Ghost Planet, Space Ghost's home
world, guests appear in the studio on a television monitor that is lowered
from the ceiling. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Helping Space Ghost muddle through his show are two of his former enemies
-- Zorak, the mutant praying mantis who's now the show's band leader, and
Moltar, the director who would rather watch reruns of "CHiPs" than bring out
the next guest. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 When not interviewing his guests, the animated host spends his time saving
his studio from mutated sea monkeys, or trying to keep Zorak from returning to
his home planet to participate in a lethal mating ritual. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The show's off-beat wit and sly parody of the late night chat show genre
have earned it a large cult following on college campuses and in Generation X
living rooms across America. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Since the show's inception two years ago, the guest monitor has been graced
by an eclectic collection of celebrities, including Bob Denver of "Gilligan's
Island," talk show frontiersman Joe Franklin and musicians The Ramones and
David Byrne. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Future guests this season will include Thurston Moore of the alternative
band Sonic Youth and singer/songwriter Jonathan Richman. Comedian Carrot Top
will attempt to cheer up a lovesick Space Ghost on a special Valentine's Day
episode, airing Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 9:30 p.m. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Joel Hodgson, creator of the cult comedy "Mystery Science Theater 3000"
(who has also penned an episode of "Space Ghost: Coast To Coast"), and
magicians Penn and Teller appear on an episode that will be a loose parody of
Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey." Space Ghost will fire Zorak and
Moltar and replace them with a computer, the MOE 2000. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Appearing tonight are Terry Jones of Monty Python and Glen Phillips, lead
singer from the band Toad the Wet Sprocket. Also, another one of Space Ghost's
old enemies, Lokar, will try to hire Moltar away to direct Lokar's talk show. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 While a certain science fiction/horror film once warned that in space
"nobody can hear you scream," with Space Ghost on the air, they'll certainly
be able to hear you laugh. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
