`Beware of dog' was not an empty warning &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Concerning the article about an Edwardsville police officer shooting a dog &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; (May 18), it appears that this officer was not properly trained in the
correct proceduresIf he had any formal training in handling this type of
situation, he would have listened to the homeowner's request not to enter the
yard until the owner had put the dog away. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The officer should be thankful that he did not kill the dog, my father or
any other innocent bystanders. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
