 July 20, 1996 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Joseph J. Loftus, 68, of Rockville, Md., and formerly of Market Street, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Pittston, died Saturday at homeBorn on Jan. 10, 1928 in Pittston, he was
the son of the late John J. and Mary C. McHale. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He graduated from St. John's High School, Pittston, and the University of
Scranton. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1947, and worked as a research chemist
for the U.S. Bureau of Standards, Washington, D.C. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a member of St. Judes Roman Catholic Church, Rockville, Md. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Woods and Ann Gallagher. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Adeline Miele; daughters,
Karen Mallen, Washington D.C.; Katheline Zamorama, Oregon; Susan, Rockville
Md.; sons, Kevin and Joseph Jr., Rockville Md.; seven grandsons; brothers,
Thomas, Rockville, Md.; Robert A., Pittston; a sister, Mary, Pittston; nieces
and nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from St. Judes Roman
Catholic Church, Rockville, Md. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at St. Judes Roman
Catholic Church, Rockville, Md. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
