Shakespeare, parties highlight bustling weeks &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 With parties and events all over town, the last few weeks have been busy.
One of the treats of the summer schedule was College Misericordia's Ninth
Annual &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Theatre-on-the-Green, which was staged from Thursday, July 11 through
Sunday, &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 July 14This year the play was Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
Donna Plank and Ann Stine did a fabulous job -- with the help of many
volunteers -- turning the north lawn into a lovely setting for the production. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Mike and Sharon Hinchey and their daughter, Collyn, watched the
performance. Blair Chapiusat, Rosemary Caputo and Lillian Smith enjoyed the
play on opening night as well. Other people in the audience included Dick and
Gail Blaum and Pete and Ann Marie Decker, who shared the evening with friends
at tables reserved by Mercy Health Care System. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Despite the threat of Hurricane Bertha, the evenings went off without a
hitch and audiences enjoyed four wonderful shows. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bertha made a lot of people nervous that weekend. Thanks to Gary Vanderburg
and Wyoming Seminary, New Directions was able to move its Fifth Annual
Volleyball Tournament from Kirby Park to the Carpenter Athletic Center on
Saturday, July 13. Janine McGrane and Harold Stout chaired the tournament
which consists of 12 corporate sponsored teams. Dwight Kline from the YMCA
coordinated the team scheduled and at the end of the day, the S&amp;S Blues team,
led by Fran and Anne Sickler won the event. It was a great tournament for all
the participants and all proceeds raised benefit the American Cancer Society. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 That same night, Judy Lipski had a big surprise when her husband, Rick,
threw a 40th birthday party at the home of her sister, Collette, and Andy
Check. About 45 friends and family members joined in the surprise, among them,
Rick and Carol Coslett. Tish McCarthy and Mike Last, along with Clare
Parkhurst, enjoyed an evening of great covered dishes and good friends. The
evening wrapped up at pool side with lots of jokes and antics. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And one guest was as surprised as Judy, to find himself pushed in the pool! &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bob and Jeanie Clements wished Judy a "happy birthday," however they were
busy co-hosting a 50th Anniversary Party for Bob's parents, Robert and Mary
Jane Clements. Molly and Joe Shaughnessy co-hosted the dinner at their home in
Lehman along with Betsy and Bruce Gover. The Clements enjoyed their evening
with family members, Betsy Trapold and Clark and Cooc Burke. Good friends,
Louise and Jack Moore and Chuck and Cookie Robbins shared in the party and
dined on a lovely dinner provided by Dolores and Michael Polk. Several nieces
and nephews also attended to congratulate the Clements on such a wonderful
occasion. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 On July 14, Mellon Bank sponsored a trip that would be hard to top. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Guests departed on a Martz Executive Bus for an enchanting ride to
Philadelphia. Guests Marian Pearsall, Connie McCole and Yvonne and Laura
Eckman began the night at a reception at the Four Seasons Hotel featuring an
incredible array of gourmet delights and refreshments. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Following the reception guests received glasses of champagne for a trolley
ride and tour of the Ben Franklin Parkway en route to the Philadelphia Art
Museum. Upon arrival the groups took in the Cezanne exhibition. After viewing
the show, Lou and Barbara Alesi and their daughter Angela -- along with
hundreds of others treated by Mellon Bank -- enjoyed an elaborate dessert
display in the museum atrium, featuring fresh figs and strawberries with fresh
whipped cream for dipping, and mouthwatering pastries and chocolates. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Jim and Beth Harkins and the Beaumont Inn provided the setting for a post
wedding reception for Shannon Cleary and Hatchi Nakagawa on Saturday, July 20.
Jack and Marianne Cleary hosted the afternoon affair for their daughter and
son-in-law and welcomed the Nakagawa family from Osaka, Japan. John and Beth
Gager and Joe and Carol Davis mingled through the party admiring the
magnificent flowers and sampling the delicious foods, varying from wild game
to Japanese delicacies. Shannon and Hatchi shared the afternoon with many
out-of-town guests and college friends. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Newberry Estates Members attended the Second Annual All-American Family
Day. Families participated in lots of land and pool games, such as putting
contests and relay races. Members enjoyed lots of hot dogs and a Western
barbecue. The afternoon"s activities were highlighted by Rob and Andy Weaver
winning the Adult/Junior Tennis Tournament, with Mike Balutanski and Mancee
Patel placing a close second, and Ron Wertman and his grandson Adam King
winning the Adult/Junior Golf Tournament. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Westmoreland Club hosted its annual New Member Party on Saturday, July
20. Alan and Debbie Hollander and Phil and Bev Moseman enjoyed cocktails and
grilled hors d'oeuvres on the Osterhout lawn and joined friends Art and Susan
Silverblatt and Gwen and Mike Harris at their table for dinner. Members Terry
and Wendy Casey dined with new members Peter and Marie Eglin and their guests
Bob and Susan Rhile from Philadelphia. They enjoyed a lovely meal of herb
encrusted tenderloin of beef with cabernet demi glace, smoked tomato roseti
and a classic vegetable medley. The evening was rounded out with dancing to
the sounds of Which Doctor, featuring Drs. Marty Freifeld and Rick Blum. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Saturday was just full of things to do. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Harveys Lake Yacht Club held its annual Shipwreck Party. New members
Kevin and Beth Blaum did a great job with the help of John and Ellen Alaimo
and Ed and Bernie Humphrey transforming the club into a desert island with
painted palm trees and tropical fish on the windows. Madame Commodore,
Margaret Reinert and her husband, Jim, along with Dorothy and Jay Delaney
tasted the menu of roasted herb chicken and top round of beef provided by
Oliver Cafe, while others, dressed in tropical attire, danced to the music
from Vinsko Entertainment. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Wyoming Historical and Geological Society and the Back Mountain
Bloomers held their annual Garden Party in the Bishop Library Garden on South
Franklin St. in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, July 24. Tune in next time for the
