 A 55/Alive mature driving course is scheduled for Saturdays, Sept. 7 and 14
at the Office and Education Building at Hazleton General Hospital, 700 East
Broad &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 St., HazletonParticipants must attend both days from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to
complete the required eight hours. Qualified graduates aged 55 and over can
receive a discount on their automobile insurance premiums for a three year
period. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Sessions are open to anyone aged 50 and over; AARP membership is not
required. Anyone interested in participating must pre-register and pay the $8

 FREELAND &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 New ambulance arrives &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Freeland-North Side Community Ambulance Association announced the
arrival of its new ambulance. The unit, a 1996 Horton 523 "B" Type III
Walk-Through Emergency Vehicle, was purchased from Spitler Emergency Vehicles
Inc. of Montoursville. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The new ambulance will be in service after a brief transition period,
during which equipment and radio units will be installed. The new vehicle must
also pass state inspection before it can be placed in service. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 During this period, many of the emergency medical calls will be handled
through the Butler Township and White Haven ambulance, and through Hazleton
Area Transfer Service. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A dedication ceremony is being planned for mid-September at the ambulance
station in the Freeland Borough Building. The ceremony will include an open
house and dinner dance. The public is invited. More details will be announced. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 BEAVER MEADOWS &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Residents reminded to use 911 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Beaver Meadows Police Department is reminding residents to use 911 for
emergency calls. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 For non-emergency calls to the police department, use the Carbon County
Communications Center at 1-800-452-1813. To leave a message for the
department, residents can call 455-7841. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 FRACKVILLE &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 CPR course scheduled &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The American Heart Association has announced a CPR course for Saturday,
Sept. 14 at the Schuylkill Mall in Frackville. The course, which covers adult,
child, and infant CPR, has a registration fee of $19 (materials included).
