With all the exciting events planned for the coming weeks here in Back &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Mountain, it's obvious that we haven't fallen into the summer doldrumsPenn
State will host the twelfth annual Arts at Hayfield on Sunday, Aug. 25. The
event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Penn State Campus in Lehman The
day long event features the works of juried artisans and crafters, live
musical entertainment a magic show, karate demonstration, food, stories, tours
of Hayfield House and, at 9 p.m., the public is invited to a free astronomy
session in the Friedman Observatory. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; * * * * &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The annual Back Mountain Antique Car Show and Flea Market hosted by
Lake-Lehman Band Sponsors is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. this Sunday, Aug.
18, on the high school grounds. There are 50 classes of cars ranging from
1900's to 1977 with entries from New York and New Jersey in addition to
Pennsylvania entries. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Prospective car buyers can browse the corral and view cars for sale. There
will be a judging at 1 p.m. But this show isn't just for car buffs. In
addition to a flea market, the band sponsors will offer a menu that includes
hamburgers, hot dogs, potato pancakes, home baked goods and ice cold
refreshments. Admission is $2. Children under 12 enter free and the proceeds
help support the award winning Lake-Lehman band. There is an August 25 rain
date. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 An Ice Cream Social from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, will be held by
the Sister Circle of the Dallas United Methodist Church. The social, at the
Church in Dallas, costs $3 for adults and $1 for children. There will be live
entertainment, face painting, and treats. Sounds like fun! &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 It isn't all fun and parties this summer. In a more serious vein, Penn
State's SAT review course will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday evenings
beginning August 19 and continuing thorough October 7. For more information

 The first ever Shavertown Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary Craft Show and Sale is
going to take place on September 21 at the fire hall behind First Union Bank. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Space reservations are due September 1, and can be made by calling 696-2107
or 675-4514. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Wyoming Valley Bicycle Club will sponsor its annual WVBC/Grotto Pizza Great
100 Touring Ride on Saturday, Aug. 24. All rides depart from the Grotto Pizza
at 8 a.m. on August 24, rain or shine. Riders can choose to cycle 100, 50 or
25 miles. All of the rides feature rest stops amply stocked with snacks and
drinks. The routes are well marked and riders will receive detailed maps. To

 It's already time to think about fall Nursery school. Trucksville Nursery
School is accepting registration for afternoon sessions for the 1996-1997
school year. Classes begin September 9th. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Appropriate programs are offered for preschoolers ranging from 2 through 5
years old. Two, three and four day classes that encourage the development of
social and communicative skills as well as love of learning are offered from 1
to 3:30 p.m. at the Nursery School in the Trucksville United Methodist
Educational Building, Church Road in Trucksville. For more information and a

 The Back Mountain Harvest Assembly invites you to a free Community Barbecue
at noon on Sunday, Aug. 25. The barbecue, being held at 340 Carverton Road,
Trucksville, will feature a teen drama performed at 2 p.m. For additional

 The Back Mountain Memorial Library set circulation figures in July with a
total circulation of 9,829 -- the highest figure since 1992. Some of this
week's new books are : Prayers for the Dead by Faye Kellerman; Servant of the
Bones by Anne Rice and Vanishing Point by Morris West. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Bucknell University, in Lewisburg, has sent news of the academic
achievement of two local residents. Both William Michalisin and Jason Krywicki
have been named to Alpha Lambda Delta honor society at Bucknell. Michalisin is
the son of Bonnie and Nichol Michalisin, Dallas. Krywicki's parents are Nancie
and William Krywicki, Shavertown. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Dallas Baptist Church members Dave and MaryAnn Knapp are celebrating their
anniversary on August 21. Church member Marcus Rondinella has a birthday on
the 16th and Ron Boudreaux on the 18th. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Meadows Nursing Center residents observing birthdays are Marion Sutliff
today, Aug. 15, and Margaret Cappucci on the 21st. Happy birthday to all! &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 The much-remarked upon traffic lights on Memorial Highway are finally
operational and, surprisingly, they have not caused dreaded traffic tie-ups. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In fact everything seems to be moving quite smoothly. Perhaps we have to
face the fact of our growth and realize that what was once merely a conduit is
now a primary retailing thoroughfare. With shops and services located on both
sides of Route 309 and 415, as well as side roads coming into and off the
road, Memorial Highway may begin to serve the same purpose as does Wyoming
Avenue in Kingston and Forty-Fort. If you have any thoughts on the subject let
me hear from you. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
