 The French Quarter Cafe specializes in Cajun dishes. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Cafe brings fun and funky spice to Luzerne &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Luzerne is becoming the fun town in the area, and the French Quarter Cafe
certainly helps. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The building is an old supermarket; it's big and it's funky. There's a bar
along one wall, tables and chairs set up in the large dining room and a couple
of televisions. The bandstand up front is where live musicians perform later
in the evening. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The shirts, banners and posters from LSU (Louisiana State University) and
the New Orleans Saints that are mounted on the wall leave no doubt just what
the French Quarter is named for. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Cajun dishes are the specialty, but the menu offers many more choices. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 There are several different kinds of strombolis: ham and cheese, cheese
steak, veggie, or a corned beef-pastrami-roast beef-cheese combo. The cheese
steak stromboli, made with chopped ribeye, cheese, peppers, onions and
mushrooms, was positively delicious. They will gladly add or subtract
ingredients to suit your taste. A medium-sized one will satisfy most healthy
appetites. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The pizzas, starting at $3.95 for a personal pizza, also come in all sorts
of combinations, including white pizza or with crawfish. The BLT pizza was
terrific: a thin crisp crust covered with tomato sauce, smoky bacon, a little
lettuce and lots of rich, tasty cheese. And then there are burgers,
sandwiches, buffalo wings and a delicious golden onion soup topped with gobs
of melted cheese. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 But the exciting menu items are the Cajun favorites. We sampled lots of
them and I can recommend most. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Seafood gumbo is a winner -- the shrimp, crab and vegetables blend
deliciously in a spicy, thick broth. Crawfish etoufee is another somewhat
soupy dish. The smooth, slightly spicy roux is loaded with crawfish and served
over rice to make a totally satisfying ~meal. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 We tried alligator with sauce piquant. The alligator, served in a delicious
tomato-based sauce, was cooked until it was meltingly tender. Like all the
sauces at the French Quarter it was spicy enough but never so hot that you
couldn't keep eating more. And all the Cajun specialties we tried were served
with a slice of fresh corn bread that is a perfect counter to the spicy food. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Steamed shrimp were prepared with lots of hot spices that you couldn't see
but could certainly taste. They were served with a cocktail sauce for dipping. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The only dish I wouldn't recommend was the blackened tuna steak ordered by
my dinner companion. The tuna was perfectly seasoned but rather dry, served
with plain steamed vegetables and jambalaya. The jambalaya is a great
combination of chicken, sausage and rice in a perfectly spiced light tomato
sauce. But there's so much that's fun to eat here, that I'd rather order a
regular dinner at a different restaurant. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 For dessert there was pecan pie and what sounded like a super-rich
chocolate pie. But on both visits to the French Quarter everyone in our group
was too full to even think of dessert. If you can order with more restraint
than we showed, I have a feeling the desserts are wonderful, too. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Owner Ron Roberts is a Kingston native who has returned home after some
time spent in Cajun country, where he owned a restaurant. His wife is the head
chef, and the two of them make a great combination. The French Quarter is
definitely worth the trip to Luzerne. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
