HANOVER TWP. -- Emergency workers wearing protective suits crawled into a
pipe at the bottom of a Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority sewage treatment
tank Thursday searching for the remaining parts of a body found in the tank
Monday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 By day's end, they had not found the missing leg and arm from the
unidentified man's body that was found by a plant worker at 4:45 p.m. Monday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; "They turned up nothing today," said Trooper Joe Lakkis, public information
officer for state police Troop P in Wyoming. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Two members of a Confined Space Task Force, wearing oxygen masks and yellow
suits to protect them from sludge, descended into a pipe that normally feeds
the clarifier tank where the body was found. They entered the tank and then
crawled into the pipe at about 2:55 p.m. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The task force is made up of about 50 members of the Kingston, Plains
Township and Nanticoke rescue units. Members are trained to enter tight spots
with limited access and oxygen for rescues, according to Chester Prymowicz, a
Nanticoke firefighter and team member. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Greg Gulick from Nanticoke and Ron Remsky of Plains Township entered two
pipes at the bottom of the tank, Prymowicz said. They wore special masks
provided by the WVSA to protect them from airborne viruses and germs,
Prymowicz said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "Basically those two guys were chosen for their size. They're both skinny
guys," Prymowicz said. "It's easy for them to get in, move around and get back
out." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Both men were taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center for
decontamination following their search. They were treated and released, a
hospital spokeswoman said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Lakkis said the divers were in the 48-inch pipe only 15 minutes. They
stopped searching because sludge blocked their movement in one pipe, he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The police investigation will continue today, but Lakkis was unable to say
what direction it will take. Investigators may consider emptying another of
the plant's tanks, which holds more than 1 million gallons of mostly treated
sewage, to search for the remaining body parts, he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 "They'll have to make that determination," Lakkis said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Luzerne County Coroner George E. Hudock Jr. said the individual found
Monday is a white male between 35 and 50 years old. Hudock and police
investigators are still trying to determine the man's identity and how he
ended up in one of the treatment plant's tanks. The plant is surrounded by a
barbed wire fence. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
