Verna Monroe &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Aug. 23, 1996 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Verna M. Monroe, 88, formerly of Exeter Avenue, West Pittston, died Friday
at the Highland Manor Nursing &amp; Convalescent Center, ExeterBorn in Throop, she
was the daughter of the late William and Amanda Knott Hoover. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She worked as a housekeeper at Pittston Hospital, and was employed by the
General Cigar Co., Kingston, before retiring. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She was a former member of the Home League of the Salvation Army. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She was preceded in death by her husband, Irving Monroe, in 1982;
daughters, Shirley Monroe and Ruth Zurek; a brother, Edgar Hoover. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving are daughters, Dorothy Belaus, Toms River, N.J.; Mae Monroe, West
Pittston; a sister, Grace Atwell, Plymouth; six grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the Frank A. Gubbiotti
Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, with the Rev. Robert J. Herrala,
representing the First Congregational United Church of Christ, West Pittston,
officiating. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment will be in the Pittston Cemetery. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
