William Francis Benson &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 September 1, 1996 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; William Francis Benson, 78, of Hill Street, Mocanaqua, died Sunday at the &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wilkes-Barre General HospitalBorn in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late
John T. and Dorothy Gonder Benson, Nanticoke. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He attended Nanticoke schools and resided in Mocanaqua for the past 48
years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of
War. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6434, Mocanaqua, and
Ascension Church, Mocanaqua. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was employed by the Glen Alden Coal Co.
and Wise Potato Chip Co., Berwick. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He and his wife, the former Margaret Kubasek, celebrated their 48th wedding
anniversary in May 1996. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 He was preceded in death by brothers, Edward, John, Phillip; a sister,
Dolores Mierzow. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Margaret Ann Benson,
Mocanaqua; sisters, Mrs. Francis (Rosemary) Nallon, Larksville; Mrs. Jack
(Elizabeth) Hough, New Jersey; a brother, Girard, Sheatown, Newport Township. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Wednesday from the George A. Strish
Funeral Home, 38 N. Main Street, Shickshinny, with a Mass of Christian Burial
at 9:30 a.m. from the Ascension Church, Mocanaqua. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Interment will be in the parish cemetery. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The rosary will be
recited at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
