Hazleton area youth stay in holiday spirit at Mistletoe Ball &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The day after Christmas. What to do? Hit the stores for sales and
exchanging presents? Eat leftovers and clean up? Maybe watch some football? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; More than 300 young adults from the Hazleton area managed something a
little more social. They spent the day getting ready for the Mistletoe Ball at
the &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Valley Country Club in HazletonThe anticipated event -- with a waiting list
for reservations -- was held on Thursday, Dec. 26 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the
club, which was still decorated for the holiday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Maureen O'Donald and Debbie Cara served as this year's co-chairs for the
party. Those attending -- all 16 to 21 years old, representing all of the area
schools -- stepped out in formal attire. Ball-goers enjoyed a dinner of
chicken and pasta with a vegetable medley, Caesar salad and for dessert, mud
pie. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 On Thursday, Dec. 19, the Young Lawyers' Division of the Luzerne County Bar
Association held its annual Holiday Party honoring the five newest members of
the Luzerne County Bar, who were sworn in that morning. The event was held
from 6 to 9 p.m. at Murray's Inn. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Among the 100 attendees joining the Young Lawyers Division were Senior
Judge Max Rosen; newly elected President Judge of the Luzerne County Court of
Common Pleas Joseph Augello; Senior Judge Bernard Podcasy; District Attorney
Peter Paul Olszewski Jr.; County Controller Ray Sobota; district justices
Marty Kane, Ron Swank, Don Whittaker, Joseph Halesey and John Hasay. YLD
officers attending were David Schwager, Mike Hudacek Jr., Linda Bartlett and
Mike Pendolphi. Chairing the event were Moira Smith, Gert McGowan and Lisa
Pierotti. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Officers and Executive Committee of the Wilkes-Barre Law and Library
Association held their annual Holiday Party on Friday, Dec. 20 at the East
Mountain Inn. Attending the event were President Joe Persico and his wife
Patrice, Vice President Charles Schaffer and Secretary Lawrence Sindaco.
Members enjoyed a dinner of prime rib, veal marsala, shrimp and scallops
scampi and chicken calabrese, followed by mousse, pies and sherbet for
dessert. David and Laurie Schwager, Thomas and Ann Marie Kennedy, Steve and
Estella Killian and Thomas and Peggy Burke enjoyed the evening as well. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Grotto Pizza at Harveys Lake was the place to be on Sunday, Dec. 29 for the
annual birthday party for Jeff Hossle, better known as Hoss. Joining the gang
at the Grand Slam Sports Bar were Brad and Karen Arnaud, Dick and Charlotte
Albertson and Steve and Jim Clemente, who enjoyed a buffet of pizza and subs
while being entertained by Little Sister and the Money Makers. Armand Mascioli
and Joe Paglianite, Grotto owners, and Rico Ditoro and Guy Capone shared in
the fun. Ed Conalogue, Gary Cutter, Amy Kuschke, Vince Trappani and John Evans
stopped in to wish Hoss well, and Jose Cuervo made a guest appearance.
Everyone joined in the fun to sing "Happy Birthday" and raised their glasses
in a champagne toast to Hoss' 43rd. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 I hope everyone had a Happy New Year -- I'll tell you about the parties
next week. In the meantime, shake the post-holiday blues and start planning
those Super Bowl parties, hit the slopes or take in a Wednesday night movie at
the Kirby. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 January doesn't have to be boring. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
