Time is running out for protecting Nescopeck Park from developers &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Soon the Pennsylvania Bureau of Parks plans to issue a call for bids to
begin construction on the Nescopeck State Park. This action is being taken
despite extensive protests from local citizens and environmental groupsThis
area between Wilkes-Barre and White Haven off route 437 has remained in a
primitive state for years, and many area residents appreciate it just as it
is. The argument against modernization of the Nescopeck is based on the fact
that the fragile beauty and diverse wildlife habitat found in the Park would
be lost to the impact of increased traffic. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As a local resource, the Nescopeck deserves protection from a
development-minded agency's disregard for public opinion. The development of a
park in this area will be highly destructive to the natural environment. Plans
include parking for over 400 cars, trailer hookups, carrying capacity for
close to 2000 people per day ... the list goes on and on. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 And this project is not something that will happen in the far distant
future. Bids should be awarded this winter, with construction to start soon
after. The ultimate goal is to attract 100,000 people to the area, which will
destroy whatever quality of life may be left after construction is done. The
entire project will cost the taxpayers over $4 million -- money that could be
spent on something useful. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Many people are opposed to this needless and expensive destruction of
nature in the name of progress. Many thanks to those of you who have already
written public officials. It remains imperative to keep the pressure on
