Franklin &amp; Marshall College sophomore Jen Gibbon earned Centennial
Conference &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for her play last weekend in
victories against Widener (63-54) and Randolph-Macon (73-62)Gibbon, a Hanover
Area graduate, scored 26 points, pulled down 18 rebounds, had three steals and
two blocked shots in the two victories. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; For the season, Gibbon has started all six games and is fourth on the team
in scoring (8.8 points a game), second in rebounding (5.8) and leads the team
with six blocked shots. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Franklin and Marshall is off to a 4-2 start. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 King's College women's basketball standout Elaine Colyer has been named the
Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom League Player of the Week for the second
consecutive week. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 King's teammate Colleen McAteer was chosen to the women's honor roll, and
King's freshman Ron McIntyre was named ECAC Rookie of the Week and to the
MAC's men's honor roll. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Colyer, a 5-foot-6-inch point guard, led King's to a third-place finish in
the Springfield/Holiday Inn Naismith Classic in Springfield, Mass. In the two
tournament games, she averaged 17.5 points, four assists and two steals while
shooting 52 percent from the field. She had a career-high 21 points in King's
opening-round, 76-68 loss to Springfield and was named to the all-tournament
team. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Colyer leads the Lady Monarchs in scoring (15.8 a game) and assists (4.5). &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 McIntyre was selected for his honors after leading the Monarchs to a
second-place finish in the Monarch Holiday Classic, including a first-round
upset of Widener in which he scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. In two
games, the all-tournament selection averaged 12.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 McAteer was chosen for the women's honor roll for a 19-point performance
against Springfield. She also had 12 rebounds and seven steals. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bryan Mullins of Forty Fort, a sophomore at Muhlenburg College, finished
second after a three-way playoff in the 19-21 age division at the Woodlake
Christmas Invitational Golf Tournament in Southern Pines, N.C. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 In the playoff, Mullins finished second to Scott Nelson of Florence, S.C.,
who birdied the second playoff hole after Mullins missed his 35-foot birdie
try. The three playoff contenders shot regulation scores of 79 on the
6,800-yard, par-72 course. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Several College Misericordia basketball players are ranked among the
Pennsylvania Athletic Conference leaders in statistics released Tuesday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Senior guard Joe Harvey is the league's leading scorer (32.5 points a game)
and is also tops in assists (7.5). Bart Clementoni and John McGovern are tied
for seventh in scoring, at 16 points a game. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 For the women's team, Staci Hughes is fifth in scoring (16.7 points) and
Linda Zebrowski is seventh in assists (3.7). Megan Kopicki is 10th in assists
(3.3). &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wilkes University men's basketball star Mike Barrouk was named the Middle
Atlantic Conference Freedom League Player of the Week. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Barrouk, a 6-foot-4-inch forward, averaged 18.3 points, six rebounds, 2.7
assists and 1.3 steals in three games during the holiday break. He capped off
the three games by scoring 32 points against Western Maryland College in the
championship game of the Holiday Inn/Colonel Classic to earn tournament MVP
honors. The 32-point performance came on 12 of 18 shooting, including four of
six from three-point range. He also pulled down eight rebounds and had two
assists in the 91-66 victory over the Green Terrors. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 For the season, Barrouk is averaging 12 points, 6.2 rebounds and three
assists a game for the Colonels (7-1). &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wilkes University associate athletic director and head field hockey coach
Addy Malatesta was named an honorable mention honoree for an Atalanta Award
for Women's Athletics, sponsored by Athletic Management Magazine and Mikasa
Sports. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Malatesta was honored in the Role Model category as someone who is an
inspiration not only to female student-athletes at Wilkes, but throughout the
country because of her work on NCAA committees. Malatesta is in her eighth
year at Wilkes, her fifth as associate athletic director. As field hockey
coach, Malatesta has guided the Lady Colonels to a 79-57-9 record in eight
years. In 1996, she led the Lady Colonels (13-7) to their fourth consecutive
Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom League championship and third ECAC
Mid-Atlantic Regional championship in four years. In 1995, Malatesta led the
Lady Colonels to their first appearance in the NCAA championships. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Malatesta, who also coached softball for five years at Wilkes, is a
graduate of Slippery Rock University and holds a master's degree in education
from East Stroudsburg University. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 She is the vice president of the MAC Operating Committee and a member of
the MAC Field Hockey Games Committee. Malatesta is also a member of the NCAA
Division III Regional Field Hockey Selection and All-American committees and
is a chairperson of the NCAA Division III National Softball Committee. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Atalanta awards were introduced two years ago by Athletic Management
Magazine to publicize new ideas in women's athletics and to create a renewed
understanding and fairness between men's and women's athletics. The awards are
named after the Greek mythological figure who was considered the best athlete
in Calydon. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Wilkes-Barre Wings bantam ice hockey team improved its record to 14-2-1
in the Delaware Valley Hockey League and 17-2-2 overall with two victories
last weekend. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Wings defeated the Springfield Quakers, 5-2, Saturday and the
Montgomery Blue Devils, 4-0, Sunday. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Against Springfield, Wilkes-Barre built a 5-0 lead in the second period and
coasted on to the victory. Scoring goals for the Wings were Brent Tobin, Dean
Williams, Kyle Reid and two by Dylan Van Gorder. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Goalies Brian Folweiler and Fran Dubeck combined for 13 saves. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Montgomery game was the fourth shutout of the season for the Wings.
Jason Parry's goal in the first period was the game's only goal until the
third period, when Stas Abelis scored twice and Kevin Lambert added the final
goal for the Wings. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Folweiler and Dubeck had 16 saves. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Wilkes-Barre Wings' pee wee team skated to two ice hockey victories
during the weekend, defeating the Delaware Junior Blue Hens, 11-0, and the
Haverford Hawks, 4-3. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Against Delaware, the Wings got three goals from Matt Kaytl and two from
Shaun McLaughlin. Greg Bugaj, Kyle Shellhammer, Josh Keeler, Ryan Henchen,
Chris Ekert and Daniel Ungvarsky scored one goal apiece. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Goalie J.P. Drury got the shutout for Wilkes-Barre. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Aginst Haverford, Henchen scored the winning goal with six minutes left in
the game. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Wings also recently participated in a holiday tournament in Binghamton,
N.Y. After round-robin play, the Wings were tied for first place with an
all-star team from Binghamton. The championship game remained tied after
regulation and the five-minute overtime. In a one-on-one shootout, the Wings
lost by one goal to Binghamton to finish second in the tournament. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Melia Barletta of Hazleton was named the all-around champion at the USA
Gymnastic Federation Level 6 Eastern Pennsylvania State Championships. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Christine Parlatore, also of Hazleton, had a good showing in the 10-11 age
group. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Barletta scored 35.75 points to earn the victory despite a fall off the
bars. Besides being the Eastern state all-around champion, she captured the
floor title with a 9.3, was second on the vault with a 9.3 and third on the
balance beam with an 8.9. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Parlatore was the runner-up on the bars with a 9.0. She was seventh on the
floor exercise with a 9.0 and turned in a score of 34.95 to finish sixth
all-around. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Barletta and Parlatore helped the Pottsville Gymnastic Training Center team
to a second-place finish in the team competition, just three-tenths of a point
out of first. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
